The Tiananmen Square is located at the heart of Beijing, and it is a public gathering spaces on important occasions such as holiday parades and pageants, announcements of the party’s instructions. The square is always a platform for the mass assemblies as it becomes a legitimate place for people to meet with their leaders. After Mao became the Chairman of People Republic of China in 1949, he has a great ambition in demonstrating his supreme power of chairmen. He constructed this Tiananmen Square with his simple idea of these words: only the biggest public and the largest square. This square was completed in 1959 and it is allowed to hold 400,000 people. There were mass parades in the modern Tiananmen Square. For example, the Red Guards in Cultural Revolution covered the enormous Square in supporting Mao.

Besides showing its glamorous aspects, Tiananmen Square was also a place for death. High court would set part of the Tiananmen Square as the execution ground for death sentences twice a year. This Square became landmarks in modern Chinese history because of a series of mass movements were taking place. When people came to the square in speaking out and expressing their will, they were arrested and beaten. The event of June 4th 1989 was an example demonstrating the movement took place at Tiananmen Square. It was a student movement in striving for their democracy and freedom, and the Tiananmen Square became blood-washed. Therefore, Tiananmen Square defined as a place of public abuse and humiliation was refreshed challenging the official myth.
