An Urban Mega Project and Landmark ---The CCTV Tower:
CCTV Tower is one of the representative buildings in Beijing. It serves as headquarter of China Central Television. CCTV headquarter is located at the Central Business District (CBD) in Beijing, and it is a symbol of CBD. The main building of CCTV headquarter is a not a traditional tower because it is created with an irregular grid of six horizontal and vertical sections. The CCTV building was part of a media park that forming a landscape of public entertainment, outdoor filming areas, and production studios, and these are the extension of the central green axis of CBD. Building CCTV Tower is one of the urban mega projects that the local developers and government promoting Beijing as a new global city by aspired international architecture design.
The spatial design became a major force of capital accumulation in mega project development, and those mega projects include cultural and business districts, upscale housing complexes, museums, convention centers and transportation infrastructure. One of the features of Chinese urban mega projects are highly involves international architectural firms in the planning process, and the CCTV headquarters was assigned to the architect, Rem Koolhaas, from Netherlands.
